So a few people are asking me "why telegram". Fair enough. Here's why compared to the other options:
Whatsapp- Zuckerberg, No one-way broadcasts, max 256 in a chat group and must be contacts beforehand.
Signal - large groups are hard.
Gab.ai - full of loud white supremacists and furries.
Mastodon - finicky AF to use.
Email - half my newsletters get heavily spam-foldered, especially if I use the naughty word "russia".
Telegram
- unlimited size one-way broadcast channels
- anti-censorship (here's the founder and story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavel_Durov )
- they've promised to only monetise non-essential features if they ever need to in the distant future.
And here's why in a macro sense:
I'm honestly frightened by how few ways there are for large groups of humans to contact each other. The more of us there are on non-censored platforms the better. Hong Kong at the moment is a great example of why it's important (they're all using this app for protest coordination).
I hate the subtle manipulation of my weak fleshy brain when scrolling a news feed and how it slowly poisons the relationship between creators and their audience (don't forget to smash that like button fam!). I just wanna do cool shit and share it to people who are interested. The other 95% of followers don't really matter.
The amount of effort spent appeasing algorithms and keeping fresh content coming on a decent-sized instagram/twitter/whatever channel is so demanding it gets in the way of real work.
I really hope this works. If you hope so too, you can help by sharing the https://t.me/pergfect link with people, starting your own channel (I'll share it!), moving friend groups off messenger/whatsapp, and just being your fine self.
